From Patenga to the road to Cox’s Bazar, Banshbaria to Parki — every stretch of Chittagong beaches hides a different kind of magic
Chittagong beaches aren’t just about the port city business. Where the Bay of Bengal cuts through the heart of this city, it has created some of Bangladesh’s most diverse beaches. This bond between hills and sea is what sets Chittagong beaches apart.
Patenga Beach: The Most Popular Spot Among Chittagong Beaches
Located just 14 km from Chittagong city, Patenga Beach is the easiest beach to reach for both locals and tourists. The long stretch of concrete blocks along the shore gives it a unique look, and the view of huge ships anchored at the port makes sunset here unforgettable. You’ll find street food, boat rides, and a lively crowd almost every evening. If you want to experience the energy of Chittagong beaches without traveling far, Patenga is your best first stop.
Patenga Beach — Closest to the City
Right beside Chittagong Airport lies this 5 km long beach. When the sun sets over the Karnaphuli estuary in the evening, the whole sky turns red. Speedboats, horse rides, and hot fuchka — it’s the weekly hangout spot for locals. During high tide, the water comes right up to the concrete blocks.
Banshbaria Beach — ‘Mini Cox’s Bazar of Chittagong Beaches
The highlight of this beach in Sitakunda is the wooden bridge. At low tide, you can walk 1 km into the sea. Water on both sides, a narrow path in the middle. It’s now a favorite among young people for photos. You can even see Maheshkhali Island in the distance from here.

Parki Beach — Quiet Among the Casuarinas
Across the Karnaphuli in Anwara Upazila, this beach is peaceful. Vast casuarina groves, red crabs, and fishermen’s boats. For those who want to avoid Patenga’s crowds, Parki is best. In the afternoon, cowherd boys come to graze cattle — it has a rural vibe.

This one’s called the ‘Green Beach’. In the monsoon, the whole beach gets covered in green grass. Green over the mud, with the vast sea in front — a unique combination. You can take a boat through the canal out to the sea.
When to Visit?
October to March is the best time. No rain, clear skies. If you reach before 5 PM, you won’t miss the sunset.
Tips:
- Check tide timings before you go. Banshbaria is beautiful at low tide, Patenga at high tide
- Crowds are heavy on holidays, go in the morning for empty shores
- Try local food — green coconut, chotpoti, spiced guava
Chittagong’s beaches aren’t as commercial as Cox’s Bazar. You can still smell the earth here. Watching the sea with hills behind you feels completely different.
